Donna Medley dreamed of opening a Christian-based spa and retreat for women. She wasn’t quite sure how, but she brought her ideas and questions to the SBDC, completed a business plan and financial projections with the help of a counselor, and then thought through her options. She realized that she would not be able to put her full plan into action all at one time.
First, she needed to find a location ... and not just any location. She wanted an older home with character that she and her husband could gradually restore, and where clients could feel relaxed, away from the hustle and bustle of most business areas. She found a big house with enough room to put Phase I of her plan into action. They bought the home with hard-saved cash at less than market value, then used the equity to get working capital to paint, carpet, work on the old wood floors, buy equipment and furniture, and turn the old house into the very definition of peaceful. They’re still working on the exterior, but you can see here, that they’ve captured the serene atmosphere they were hoping for on the inside
Donna and one employee serve their customers by appointment only. Now working on a marketing plan to build awareness of her business, Donna is happy to have the doors of CovRing open, and looks forward to adding to the available services and products gradually as she can.
This is a perfect example of creativity in financing a business .... and of hard work paying off.
