The Winthrop University Small Business Development Center is partially funded under an agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The support given by the U.S. Small Business Administration through such funding does not constitute an express or implied endorsement of any of the co-sponsor(s)' or participants' opinions, findings, conclusions, recommendations, products or services.

You will find SBA-sponsored offices of Small Business Development Centers housed in universities and colleges all over the country, all providing the same kind of one-on-one assistance and start-up information for those wanting to start a new business.  We offer “How to Start A Small Business” workshops free of charge, as well as seminars for existing businesses on tax issues.  Various SBDC locations will offer workshops on other subjects from time to time.   We also offer free consultations to help you start and fine-tune your business plan, or locate a business loan when you are ready for that step.   Please note, that although you may have seen ads telling you that there are grant funds available for business start-ups, no one including the SBA is currently giving grants for business start-up.  Writing a good business plan and showing some personal financial input are still the best ways for any individual to qualify for additional funding from traditional lending sources.  Call (803) 323-2283 today to schedule an appointment with our qualified counselors at our Winthrop location.
